The City of Pflugerville is a rapidly growing city between Round Rock and Austin. The City has expanded from a small community of just 549 residents in 1970 to over 47,000 residents in 2009. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates more than 90,000 residents in Pflugerville and surrounding areas are contained within the boundaries of the Pflugerville Independent School District.

It is clear to any visitor to the city that the original townsite is visually distinctive from the more suburban, residential, development patterns that have resulted beyond it. The downtown area is represented by the common grid street system, a few remaining turn of the century downtown buildings and a substantial number of historic homes.
